Dermasport is actively evaluating Bemotrizinol (BEMT) following its FDA approval as a sunscreen active ingredient, applying the same clinical and performance standards required of every product in our line.

The FDA's recent approval of Bemotrizinol (BEMT) as a sunscreen active ingredient is a meaningful development for sun care in the United States, and it has motivated Dermasport to formally evaluate BEMT for use in our product line. We have received our first formulation sample for performance testing and are conducting a clinical-grade evaluation of its active ingredient performance, texture, application characteristics, and overall suitability against Dermasport's product standards.

If our evaluation establishes a formulation that meets those standards, we intend to add it to our offering. A final formulation and launch timing have not yet been determined, and we will not bring a BEMT product to market until our testing supports it.

Our Commitment

Dermasport's evaluation process applies the same standards we require of every product we offer: verified broad-spectrum protection, textures suited to active use, and suitability for sensitive skin. Our approach is informed by the guidance of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Christopher Schmidt, and we are evaluating multiple formulation paths to determine how BEMT can best serve our customers. We will share further updates as testing progresses.

About Bemotrizinol (BEMT)

Bemotrizinol, commonly abbreviated BEMT and also known internationally by the trade name Tinosorb S, is an organic (non-mineral) ultraviolet filter that absorbs light across both the UVB and UVA ranges. It has been used in sunscreen products outside the United States — including in Europe and Australia — since the early 2000s.

On June 9, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a Final Administrative Order (OTC000039) establishing BEMT as an approved over-the-counter sunscreen active ingredient in the United States at concentrations up to 6%, effective August 9, 2026. It is the first new sunscreen active added to the U.S. over-the-counter framework in more than two decades. Under the order, BEMT is recognized as generally safe and effective for use by adults and children six months of age and older, consistent with other approved sunscreen actives. BEMT is classified as a chemical (organic) UV filter, distinct from mineral filters such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. As with any active ingredient, its performance in a finished product depends on the complete formulation, which is the focus of Dermasport's current testing.
