As a dermatologist and an avid swimmer, I know that the unique needs of swimmers demand a unique approach to skincare. Today, I want to share some personal tips with you on how to get the most out of your Dermasport System.
Ready? Let's dive in!
1. Consistency is King
Your skin thrives on routine. Dermasport’s four-step system is designed to seamlessly integrate into your daily morning and evening skincare rituals, as well as your pre and post-swim routines. To unlock the best results, don't skip any steps in the system.
2. But First, Sunscreen
Apply the Dermasport Facial Sunscreen 15 minutes before swimming or sweating. A good practice is to do this before leaving your house or changing into your swimsuit. Protecting your skin against harmful UV rays is not an option, but a necessity.
3. Take a Gentle Approach to Cleansing
Over-cleansing can strip your skin of its essential oils, leaving it dry and vulnerable. Use our Gentle Facial Cleanser in the morning or evening and after swimming, but aim for no more than twice a day. Your skin will be clean, but still retain its necessary oils for hydration.
4. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Dry skin is more susceptible to the irritating effects of pool chemicals. To combat this, moisturize your skin daily and after every swim to keep your skin soft and hydrated.
5. The Eyes Take Time
Spend a full 30-45 seconds massaging in our Eye Cream to stimulate circulation and help smooth out the indentations caused by goggles. Be patient as your skin around the eyes is thin and will time to bounce back.
6. Beware of the Black Hole
Our swim bags can be black holes, items that go in rarely come out. I've found that keeping two Complete Kits - one for my swim bag and one for home - makes it much easier to stick to my skincare routine.
Remember, proper skincare is not a sprint. Stay consistent, be patient, and you'll see the rewards of your dedication.
